Christmas in Canaan
The night was magic with music, prizes, food, crafts, goodwill and friendship. Four hundred people joined 150 of their neighbors who shared their knowledge, gifts, food and crafts as part of Canaan's First Annual Christmas in Canaan celebration on 12-12-12.
Route 4 was crowded with cars, horses, people walking and carolers as they visited 45 activities going on in Canaan Village between 5 and 9 PM on Wednesday. A horse and wagon ride visited the northeast end of the village and sled dogs were displayed at the ball field. People visited every location to have their Christmas Passport stamped to enter the drawings for several prizes. While the weather did not deliver snow for the sled dogs nor ice at the rink on the ball fields, the rink will be flooded when it freezes and maintained and lighted for the rest of the winter.
Fourteen areas offered free food that included cookies, pizza, hot dogs, chili, soups, stew, hot chocolate, cider, popcorn, french-fries, donuts, candy canes, cake, and eggnog. Non-perishable food and toys were collected at several spots and the collection will continue for the next week at the Town Office. The overwhelming response from the public was one of thanks for the fun evening and a request to do it again next year.
