The town treasurer is responsible for the custody, deposit, and disbursement of town funds in compliance with detailed statutory standards. The treasurer submits books, vouchers and statements to the selectmen, and to the town auditors whenever requested.

The treasurer invests excess funds in accordance with the selectmen's investment policy, and pays out town money only on orders of the selectmen, with the exception of the Conservation Commission Fund.
