Canaan's Building Inspector:

• Assists in preparing, receiving and processing building permit applications
• Advises on any additional permits needed, which may include:
  • Review by the Town's Historic District Commission
  • A Highway Department driveway permit
  • A site plan review or sub-division approval from the Planning Board
• Advises about needed state permits including an on-site septic system design. Files of these designs are maintained by the Inspector.

Once completed, the Inspector issues certificates of occupancy and a 911 address.
